The Eden Project was constructed in an exhausted china clay quarry, a project conceived by Tim Smit which took two and a half years to construct. There is a meandering path with spectacular views of the two biodomes. The tropical biodome is a trek through steamy, humid rainforests with luscious tropical plants from the rainforests of South America, West Africa, the Oceanic islands and Asia. An array of smallholdings exhibits the growing of sugar cane, bananas, coffee and more. The temperate biodome takes you on a tour through temperate regions of the world. There are all kinds of flora and fauna, citrus and olive groves, cork trees, herbs and vines, colourful Californian annuals, banks of fruit and vegatables. The whole of the outdoor area is planted with species found in our own climate: bulbs flower in the spring, lavender in the summer and apples ripen in the autumn.

Eden is a great day out for the family. There are play areas and trails for children. A variety of food and drink is available throughout the site and, finally, the Eden project shop has a range of ethical products that make delightful gifts and sells a range of wonderful plants for your garden.
